2) This position requires the studio manager to teach studio art classes throughout the year for children and adults, including summer camps, after school classes, workshops for Latina women in our "Club de arte para Mamas" and off site at community events. Please describe how you have related experience leading visual arts classes for diverse audiences.
3) The museum uses a teaching approach called Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) in our tour program, teacher professional development, and supportive education programs. How familiar are you with VTS and what has been your training in this area?
4) Describe your experience in writing curriculum for arts programs.
The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art's (JSMA) Education Department is integral to the museum's mission. It provides art production programs in the studio and at many offsite locations as well as professional teaching training and Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) training for schools throughout the state. The JSMA serves an increasingly diverse audience, including K-12 students and teachers, families, visitors with special needs, and the community at large.
The purpose of this position is to support education programs through the delivery of program curricula and coordination of K-12, studio programs, and special projects and develop and implement studio and K-12 programs and collaborative community partnerships independently. The position coordinates and delivers intensive and sustained professional development to teachers and administrators in evidence-based strategies (Visual Thinking Strategies) for teaching the visual arts, coordinates all studio classes and camps for the JSMA, and assists with artist in residencies and museum education program development for K-12 audiences and community outreach. This position aligns education programming and post-tour art activities with Common Core Standards, teaches and coordinates classes and supervises, trains, provides lead work, and hires UO students and community members who teach in both the museum and off-site. The position assists with the assessment, design, implementation, and evaluation of studio programs and special projects.
This position serves as the lead art instructor, educator, and studio coordinator under the supervision of the Director of Education. This position will write and design post-tour activities, develop Family Day workshops, manage and teach after school-classes, summer camps, the club de Arte para Mamas and Dia de los Muertos and provide teachers with professional development and training in VTS arts curricula. This position is also responsible for managing all off-site art classes, outreach programs (including those funded by federal grants), community arts events, artist residencies, Family Days, on-site studio programs, offsite studio programs, and post tour programs. This employee provides administrative support and coordination for ArtsAsia, a K-12 curriculum program, and other program support for the director of education.
• Associate's Degree and three years of work experience (paid or volunteer) supporting community programs that serve children, youth or adults
• Bachelor's Degree and one year of work experience (paid or volunteer) one year of which must be working in youth development programs, adult education, teaching, program delivery or related functions
• Five years experience in a field related to the duties of the position AND a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated skill to work with diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated skill to use computers for word processing, data management, and communications.
• Superior art education program design ability, stellar communication skills including writing and oral communication.
• Computer proficiency including database management.
• Trained in Visual Thinking Strategies.
• Bachelor's degree in Arts and Administration, Art History, Art Education or Fine Arts.
• Spanish Language fluency.
