Human Resources serves the campus community as a strategic partner by building HR processes, systems, and infrastructure to provide streamlined, state-of-the-art services to campus partners, and developing HR expertise to enable HR to advance university goals and the institution's HR capacity. The person in this position must support diversity and inclusion in every aspect and responsibility associated with the job.
The Learning and Development Manager reports to the Director, HR Programs & Services within the central Office of Human Resources. The person in this position is responsible for the programmatic oversight of the University of Oregon’s employee learning and development portfolio. The position will supervise the Learning and Development Analyst and student worker(s).
The person in this position will serve as a member of the human resources team with typical responsibilities including: working with campus subject matter experts to facilitate expansion of learning and development offerings to all levels of employees, re-designing a supervisory training program, building and maintaining relationships with a network of training professionals, and facilitating in person programming. This position will collaborate with units and employees on training and development needs, identify internal and external resources, and assist units to obtain those resources. The person in this position must collaborate effectively with employee groups such as the Classified Staff Training and Development Advisory Council and the Officer of Administration Council.
This position demands a firm commitment to serving the University with sensitivity and professionalism. The position provides confidential support related to collective bargaining and the employee and labor relations unit within human resources. The position requires abundant self-confidence and the ability to multi-task many cases, processes, and unplanned happenings at one time. The ability to handle confidential material appropriately and maintain an institutional perspective is also critical.
• Bachelor’s degree with 5 years’ professional work experience in professional development, training, or similar field.
• Strong training presence and experience in delivering training in a variety of contexts.
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of best practices in adult learning
• Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating learning and development programs in a complex organization.
• Demonstrated ability to write and edit complex policy, procedure, and other technical prose.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
• Demonstrated strong analytical and critical thinking skills; and ability to analyze, summarize, and effectively present data.
• Ability to manage confidential or sensitive information and issues responsibly.
• Ability to work and solve problems independently as well as in a collaborative team environment, and represent the university in an appropriate and professional manner.
• A commitment to and experience with promoting and enhancing diversity and equity.
• Experience supervising a team of professionals
• Experience in the public sector or higher education
• Familiarity with university organizational structure, policy, and political issues in higher education.
• Experience working with collective bargaining agreements and unions.
