Department Summary
The Environmental Studies Program (ENVS) is an interdisciplinary program in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of Oregon (UO). The program offers undergraduate majors in Environmental Studies and Environmental Science, a minor in Environmental Studies and supports the Food studies minor, a master’s in Environmental Studies and a PhD in Environmental Science, Studies and Policy.

Currently ENVS has approximately 31 graduate students, 336 Environmental Studies majors, 280 Environmental Science majors, 77 Environmental Studies minors and 35 Food Studies minors. Graduate and undergraduate seminars, courses and internships are offered through the program. A committee of faculty members advises the program director, who determines program direction and policy.

Additionally, many faculty from various disciplines (with environmentally-related research interests) provide program support by teaching courses, participating on committees and advising students. The office manager serves as a liaison between the governing faculty and the office staff.

Position Summary
The Academic and Career Advisor provides comprehensive advising services for undergraduates in the Environmental Studies (ENVS) Program. The Environmental Studies Program houses two undergraduate majors – Environmental Studies (ENVS) and Environmental Sciences (ESCI) (over 600 majors), as well as the ENVS minor and Food Studies minors (over 175 minors). This position has no budgetary authority. This position supervises the Student Advising Center peer advisors and provides oversight to all aspects of the ENVS undergraduate advising program. This position reports to the ENVS Program Director with day-to-day operations oversight from the Office Manager. The successful candidate will support and enhance a diverse learning and working environment.

Minimum Requirements
• Master’s degree.
• 1 year of experience providing academic advising.

• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, support staff and other personnel across campus from a diverse background.
• Ability to council students in decision-making processes related to choosing a major concentration and/or to provide information on job search strategies.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, support staff and other personnel across campus from a diverse background.
• Collaborative leadership skills with the ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects effectively and efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications
• Degree in environmental field.
• 1 year of professional working experience in an environmental field outside of academia (e.g., in government, NGOs or the private sector).
• Proficiency with Banner, Student Success Collaborative software and social media.
• 1 year of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
• 6 months of experience providing career advising.
