Department Summary
University Advancement is responsible for strategically positioning the UO with its various constituents and securing resources to further its aims. The division consists of approximately 200 employees primarily working out of Eugene, with offices in Portland and Bend. Departments within University Advancement include: Advancement/UO Alumni Association, Development, Stewardship and Public Events, Advancement Operations, Federal Affairs, and State and Community Affairs.

Position Summary
The University of Oregon Alumni Association (UOAA) makes the UO stronger by fostering lifelong relationships, helping Ducks become champions, cheerleaders, ambassadors and advocates for the university. Launched in 1879 with five alumni, the UOAA is proud of its long history of keeping alumni connected to the university and offering a wide array of opportunities for service. With a membership of more than 27,000, the alumni association serves as an important connection to the university for the more than 220,000 alumni around the world. Our vision is to be among the very best alumni relations programs in the country, enriching the lives of Ducks and the UO.

Reporting to the Senior Director, the Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for helping to lead and execute a comprehensive strategy that seeks to engage alumni, students, parents and friends in programming a volunteer service to help advance the mission of the UO Alumni Association and the university. This position will oversee programs and volunteer initiatives that drive participation across the university, including involvement in alumni association programming and with geographic alumni chapters and special interest groups. This individual will supervise four staff members. This individual will be a leader who can inspire staff and volunteers to fulfill the organizational mission and whose work is guided by a comprehensive strategy for moving stakeholders through phases of engagement that result in membership and donor support. The Director will also manage program budget(s) and represent the alumni association to a broad audience of alumni, donors, UOAA members, university partners and campus administration.

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience within alumni relations, university advancement or nonprofit management.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience managing volunteer programs.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience supervising or leading a unit/team.

Professional Competencies
• A proven capability to design and execute programs and activities based upon defined strategy and provide complete assessment of performance.
• Demonstrated ability to manage people as well as to define staff positions and train, retain and recognize employees.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects, work effectively with others and to develop strategies to achieve operating goals.
• Ability to set priorities and work with diplomacy and efficiency in a high demand environment.
• Experience recruiting, training and motivating volunteers.
• A strong sense of financial accountability and the ability to manage resources with prudence and efficiency.
• Possess the ability to collaborate with multiple internal and external colleagues as well as third-party vendors.
• Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including: project management, teamwork, analytical thinking, attention to detail and client/customer awareness.
• Possess the ability to work with changing priorities and multiple projects.
• Must be able to handle confidential information with excellent judgement and discretion.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Ability to work some evenings and weekends and travel on a periodic basis.
• Commitment to, and experience with, promoting and enhancing diversity and equity.

Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience in alumni relations, development, or donor relations at a higher education institution.
• Experience working in professional roles in higher education at the University of Oregon or similar institutions.
• Experience in organizations with extensive external outreach.
• Experience using data analytics to foster involvement.
