The Business Affairs Office is responsible for ensuring that the University applies sound and responsive business practices while adhering to all regulations, policies, procedures, and industry standards.
The Business Affairs Office (BAO) Cost Accounting, Financial Analysis and Reporting (CAFAR) Manager is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and assisting in the completion of all internal and external financial reporting. The decisions made by the CAFAR Manager have institutional impact, as they relate to the development, implementation, and compliance with university policies and procedures. The CAFAR Manager is expected to establish and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and administrators in the execution of duties. The CAFAR Manager supervises 2.0 FTE.
The CAFAR team is responsible for preparing all University of Oregon (UO) internal and external financial reports; for providing proactive and timely customer service that facilitates accurate and timely financial analysis and reporting across campus; and for providing Banner user training and support for all Banner users. The CAFAR team analyzes financial information using guidelines and directives issued by the State of Oregon, Federal Government, Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO).
The CAFAR team ensures that campus outreach and communication related to financial analysis and reporting promotes and enhances the mission-driven activities of the University. The team also collaborates with the Office of Research and Innovation to coordinate and prepare the Facilities and Administrative (F&A) Study and Proposal process.
This position reports directly to the Director of Financial Services and has limited budget authority.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus three (3) years of accounting, auditing, and financial analysis experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years supervisory experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
• Leads by example and maintains the highest ethical standards within the department and within the university.
• Demonstrated experience with computers and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred, MBA desirable.
• Public Accounting experience, CPA and/or CMA certification strongly preferred.
• Strong Cost Accounting background in a college/university setting with a decentralized structure.
• Knowledge of and experience working with the Facilities and Administrative (F&A) Study and Proposal process, preferably in a college/university setting.
• Accounting, auditing and/or financial analysis experience related to Sponsored Projects (Grants).
• Experience working with an enterprise accounting and reporting system (e.g. Banner).
• In-depth knowledge of internal control processes that comply with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements and best business practices, preferably in a college/university setting.
• Solid experience managing and motivating associates on many levels within the organization to achieve continuous improvement.
