Position Announcement
The School of Music and Dance is seeking highly qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor of Musicology position to begin September 16, 2019.

Primary responsibilities will be to teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in popular music studies while maintaining an active program of appropriate research and publication. Must be able to teach an undergraduate survey class on hip-hop, but additional graduate and/or undergraduate course offerings may include (but are not limited to): history of popular music studies, African American and/or Native American musical genres, protest music, and twentieth-century survey. Research topics should complement those of our current faculty and may involve issues of decoloniality, gender and sexuality, analysis of the music industry, and applied ethnomusicology. In addition, candidates will advise graduate and undergraduate research projects including theses and dissertations. Additional duties dependent upon qualifications and interests of the applicant, and the needs of the school. Serve on committees and perform other appropriate university service.

Department or Program Summary
The music program has an enrollment of nearly 500 undergraduate and graduate music majors and a faculty and staff of 93, plus 70 graduate assistants. A wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs are offered from the baccalaureate through the doctoral level, including programs in performance, accompanying, music education, composition, theory, history, jazz studies, piano and string pedagogy, conducting, music technology, and music with a liberal arts emphasis. The school is the largest and most comprehensive music and dance program in the Pacific Northwest and is associated with the internationally recognized Oregon Bach Festival. Our 540-seat Beall Concert Hall is acclaimed for its beauty and world-class acoustics and hosts the school’s annual ChamberMusic@Beall series, which brings in international performing groups such as the Imani Winds, St Martin in the Fields, the Turtle Island String Quartet, Chanticleer, and pianist Simone Dinnerstein.

Minimum Requirements
• Doctorate in ethnomusicology or musicology by time of appointment.
• Potential for significant scholarly contributions is expected.
• Evidence of excellence in teaching at the college level is essential.

Demonstrated potential to contribute effectively to a faculty team dedicated to creating a positive, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment for an increasingly diverse student population.

We are located less than a two-hour drive south of Portland in the southern end of the Willamette Valley. The Pacific coast is an hour to the west and the Cascade Mountains with fishing, camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, and skiing or snowboarding little more than an hour to the east.
