Department Summary
UO Portland educates and serves over 400 graduate students in the School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC), College of Design, Lundquist College of Business and School of Law. In addition, undergraduate students study at UO Portland in both SOJC and College of Design.

Position Summary
The Director of Student Services provides leadership, vision, and support to Vice Provost for Portland in the areas of student life and career services.

In the area of student life, this person serves as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for UO Portland; responds to students’ concerns, crises, problems and complaints; ensures all students have access to health and counseling services; promotes student community across all schools and colleges; and works on the leadership team supporting all programs, departments, centers and initiatives in support of Portland students’ success and safety.

In the area of career services, this person advises students in all areas of career direction and the job search process; designs and manages job search groups, workshops and promotion of all opportunities; and develops relationships with professionals in the private, public and nonprofit sectors to facilitate internships and career opportunities for students.

This position supervises one classified employee and one student.

Minimum Requirements
• Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs administration, college student personnel, counseling, or related field from an accredited institution.
• Five years progressively responsible professional experience.
• Two years supervisory experience.
• Previous experience serving students at institutions of higher education.

• Exceptional ability to work collaboratively with students and colleagues.
• Ability to commit to an on-call environment where work is not confined to a traditional work schedule.

Preferred Qualifications
• Strong assessment practices and skills and ability to analyze, summarize, and effectively present data of outcomes-based measures.
• Demonstrated ability to manage high-pressure, high-profile situations ethically, effectively, efficiently, and consistently.
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple, on-going issues and projects.
• Knowledge of advising, coaching and/or counseling techniques.
• Experience applying relevant laws such as FERPA, Clery, Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (Campus SaVE) Act, and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Title IX to programs in their work.
• Demonstrated crisis management and emergency response skills.
• Previous experience working with career services.
• Database and computer literacy skills, the ability to maintain accurate files.
• Experience supervising personnel.
• Experience working with a wide range of individuals, organizations, and departments.
