Department Summary
The College of Education at the UO has a strong tradition of scholarship, outreach, and impact at local, state, national, and global levels. The College is a community of scholars devoted to scholarly excellence and creating a learning and research environment that seeks diverse perspectives, demands equity, and fosters inclusion. It is home to a dozen research and outreach units, two training clinics, and a highly productive faculty who are national and international leaders in prevention science, school-based intervention, research methods, and measurement designed to improve the lives of children and families. The Counseling Psychology and Human Services department includes multiple degree programs, including our master’s and doctoral programs in Prevention Science and our undergraduate program in Family and Human Services. The department also includes master’s level training in Couples and Family Therapy and a doctoral program in Counseling Psychology.

College of Education graduate programs are some of the highest ranked in the country for both research scholarship and graduate education, including the School Administration, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, and Special Education Programs. Faculty are dedicated to enhancing multicultural competencies, promoting social justice, and promoting education and prevention sciences and practices.

Our faculty are devoted to inspiring and mentoring the approximately 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students who comprise the College and who will be the next generation of educational and social service leaders. The Prevention Science programs are relatively new to the University of Oregon (they began as degree programs in 2016). The focus of the degree programs is to train students in scientific inquiry related to the prevention of a range of societal problems, such as substance abuse, child maltreatment, and obesity. The program emphasizes prevention with underserved populations with a focus on health disparity. The students in the master's programs (ME.d. and M.S.) complete a research project as part of their degree.

Position Summary
The University of Oregon’s College of Education (COE) seeks to hire a career, non-tenure track lecturer to serve as the Associate Director of the Prevention Science Academic Programs. Candidates with research experience related to the prevention of a variety of societal problems related to human well-being are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will have a research background in Prevention Science, Applied Psychology, Human Development and Family Studies, Education, Community Psychology, Public Health, or related field. This position will work closely with the Director of Prevention Science to manage, organize, and administer the programs. The successful applicant will have research experience and expertise that will allow for advising research projects at the master’s level, including research design, conceptualization, analyses of data, and publication in mid- to top-tier journals in the field.

Responsibilities include teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses in the department, advising master’s students at both the ME.d. and MS level, supervising graduate students, and coordinating program activities such as admissions, community outreach, and the expansion of the programs into the Portland area.

This is a 9-month position with potential for an additional summer appointment.

Minimum Requirements
Rank of Lecturer:
• Earned doctorate in Prevention Science or related field, such as Applied Psychology, Human Development and Family Studies, Developmental Psychology, Education, Social Work/Public Health, Community Psychology, or a closely related field.

Rank of Senior Lecturer 1:
• Earned doctorate in Prevention Science or related field, such as Applied Psychology, Human Development and Family Studies, Developmental Psychology, Education, Social Work/Public Health, Community Psychology, or a closely related field.
• 6 years of applicable experience post award of doctorate.
• A record of scholarly productivity and research commensurate with level of experience that would enable mentorship of masters research projects.
• A record of mentoring, and/or supervising graduate students.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching graduate and/or undergraduate level university courses. (excellence is only mentioned in this rank, above rank only requested demonstrated teaching expertise)
• Documented service and/or leadership in the field, department, college, and/or university
• Documented program coordination or comparable leadership responsibilities and contributions to the graduate education program.

Professional Competencies
• Excellent communication skills that will enhance community relations and support graduate student training.
• Commitment to equity in research, clinical, teaching, and service activities.

Preferred Qualifications
• An established area of substantive research interest that complements existing COE research.
• Experience teaching large undergraduate courses.
• Membership and contributions to the Society for Prevention Research, the American Public Health Association, or related professional organizations.
