Department Summary
University Advancement is responsible for strategically positioning the UO with its various constituents and securing resources to further its aims. The division consists of approximately 200 employees primarily working out of Eugene, with offices in Portland and Bend. Departments within University Advancement include UO Alumni Association, Development, Principal and International Gifts, Advancement Operations, Federal Affairs, and State and Community Affairs.

University Development is a comprehensive fundraising department with an overall mission to sustain and enhance excellence at the University of Oregon by securing and stewarding philanthropic gifts and raising funds from private sources to fund priorities outlined by the University’s faculty and administrative leadership. The department has employees working out of the central office (Ford Alumni Center), Portland White Stag building, and offices within the schools and colleges.

Position Summary
In order to establish and cultivate lifelong relationships among UO Alumni, parents, friends, etc., the Program Manager, Alumni Engagement will serve as a representative for the organization’s multi-faceted University Advancement mission.

Reporting to the Director of Regional Engagement in Portland, the Program Manager will work in consultation and collaboration with both the Director and with colleagues in the UO Alumni Association to advance the regional engagement strategy for alumni through supporting the Portland volunteer chapter, planning events, engaging new audiences, and connecting campus partners with community stakeholders.

This position requires access to transportation for frequent travel to meetings and events. This position must be able to work occasional nights and/or weekends to fulfill special projects and events.

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year of full-time (or equivalent) experience in program management (including budgeting) within a higher education or non-profit setting.
• Three years’ experience in progressive management roles with the same nonprofit organization, or one year of experience managing volunteer programs from a staff standpoint.

• Experience planning, executing, and ‘working through’ events with a strategic purpose.
• Ability to make a verbal and written case for becoming involved in the life of the University.
• Demonstrated ability to build and execute programs and engage volunteers to achieve operating goals; experience with associated financial management and budgeting.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
• Experience with project management and organization.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and design events.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and others as appropriate.
• Proven proficiency with Excel, Word, and Outlook (or similar scheduling/calendar program), and familiarity with Microsoft Office and routine software applications.
• Excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
• Commitment to and experience with promoting and enhancing diversity and equity.
• Ability to adapt as new situations arise.

Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with alumni relations and advancement in a higher education setting.
• Experience managing a group of volunteers in a nonprofit setting.
• Experience working in higher education.
• Experience working remotely, or in a setting with limited direct supervision.
• Familiarity with the University of Oregon and UOAA.
