The University of Oregon’s Division of Equity and Inclusion (DEI) promotes inclusive excellence by working to ensure equitable access to opportunities, benefits, and resources for all faculty, administrators, students, and community members. DEI is organized around five portfolios of work: Campus and Community Engagement (CaCE), the Center on Diversity and Community (CoDaC), the Center for Multicultural Academic Excellence (CMAE), the Multicultural Center (MCC), and the Office of the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion.
The Program Manager (PM) reports directly to the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion (VPEI), managing major DEI programs, many of which may fall under the Campus and Community Engagement (CaCE) and CoDaC portfolios. The PM works collaboratively with staff across the division and campus to develop and implement equity and inclusion programming while building and maintaining strong strategic relationships with faculty, staff, students, other campus partners, and community organizations.
The PM identifies resources and draws on various division staff necessary to effectively plan and execute programs that help DEI achieve its vision in a timely and professional manner. The primary responsibilities of this position are to lead and implement major DEI programs, use effective project management methodologies to ensure that program objectives are successfully met, and regularly communicate program plans and progress with division leadership and stakeholders in an open and professional manner. The PM will also provide support for cross-campus initiatives in support of the implementation of the university’s diversity framework – IDEAL.
The position regularly requires the ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative, drawing on a comprehensive knowledge of the complex issues that accompany advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in a higher education environment. The person in this position must possess a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity, and be comfortable working with people from a range of diverse backgrounds and positions. The successful candidate will be adaptable to changing priorities in a dynamic environment, and a collaborative team member in a small but productive division. This position will work a flexible work schedule, including some evenings and weekends, according to the business needs of the unit.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Two years of experience with and commitment to equity and inclusion related programming, and to working effectively with individuals and communities of diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Ability to set and organize priorities, take initiative, and anticipate obstacles.
• Ability to work independently, to lead a team, and act as a member of a team.
• Ability to attend to details, be flexible, and adaptable to change and shifting priorities.
• Strong relationship-building skills, operating with tact, diplomacy, and cultural sensitivity.
• Demonstrated experience leading professional-level large event planning.
• Ability to display creativity and positive attitude in carrying out responsibilities.
• Master’s degree.
• Formal training in Project Management methods; experience using project management software to manage tasks with a team; project management work experience in higher education or other large, complex organization.
• Experience with planning and implementation of programs and events that serve underrepresented, underserved populations.
• Experience staffing executive level committees.
• Understanding and knowledge of marketing, print production, and graphic design principles.
