Position Announcement
The University of Oregon’s Department of Psychology invites applications for a tenure-track position in data science in psychology. For this position we are interested in researchers who develop and/or integrate new, quantitative methods within psychological research. Examples of relevant areas for this search include, but are not limited to: natural language processing; machine learning; network analysis of neural, psychological, or social processes; longitudinal modeling of developmental processes; computational models of human learning, perception, or performance; scientific computing; data visualization; or other modern computational methods and approaches applied in psychological research. The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level and will begin in Fall 2020.

The competitive candidate (Ph.D. required at the time of appointment) will have an active research program and be capable of outstanding research and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to the collaborative, interdisciplinary, and growing community of researchers across campus with interests in data science. We particularly welcome applications from scholars who are from populations historically underrepresented in the academy, and/or who have experience working with diverse populations.

Department or Program Summary
The primary goal of the Department of Psychology is to cover the entire field of basic psychological and clinically relevant research. Department faculty group themselves into four major areas: Clinical, Cognitive/Systems Neuroscience, Developmental, and Social/Personality. Data science is a new emphasis in our department that spans across areas; it also connects with other departments and disciplines through the university’s Presidential Initiative in Data Science. Our department values interdisciplinary collaborations and open science. We embrace basic as well as translational work with potential for societal impact.

This search is one of nearly a dozen associated with the Presidential Initiative in Data Science at the University of Oregon. This initiative spurs intentional growth in research and education using big data and cutting-edge analytics across the entire campus. We are building a cross-disciplinary data science program on a foundation of strong interdisciplinary research and innovative education at a liberal arts research university. We seek scholars excited to contribute to the program’s growth through excellence in a specific academic focus, as well as through interdisciplinary collaborations across data science writ large.

Minimum Requirements
Doctoral degree in psychology or related field by the time of the appointment.

Preferred Qualifications
Competitive applicants will have an established research profile, peer-reviewed publications, external funding experience, and a proven record of teaching experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to teach and mentor in ways that value the varied learning needs and interests of a culturally diverse student population and that reflect a commitment to encouraging the success of all students.
