Department Summary
Early Childhood CARES provides early intervention and early childhood special education services to infants, toddlers and preschool children in Lane County. Over 1600 children who have developmental delays or disabilities are served each year.

Early Childhood CARES services include parent consultation, parent-toddler groups, specialized preschools, consultation to children in community preschools or child care, and speech, physical or occupational therapy.

Staff who work for Early Childhood CARES have teaching licenses or state authorization to teach young children. They are specialists in early intervention/early childhood special education, speech therapy, physical therapy, autism and behavior.

Early Childhood CARES is funded by the Oregon Department of Education with state and federal dollars.

Position Summary
Early Childhood CARES is seeking qualified applicants for its open Speech Language Pathologists pool.

Speech Language Pathologists provide educationally–based direct speech therapy services to children from birth to school age as specified on children’s Individual Family Service Plans. This position will provide instruction and consultation to approximately 40 children.

Both full-time and part-time positions are available. Part-time appointment hours will vary based on case load and department needs and may be paid on an hourly basis when hours are expected to vary. Positions are limited duration appointments potentially renewable for up to a total of three years, including summer. This position involves working in homes, preschools, and clinic situations.

Employee must be able to travel to locations throughout Lane County that are not serviced by public transportation

Minimum Requirements
• Master's degree in Communication Disorders and Sciences (Speech Language Pathology)
• American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) licensure in speech and language pathology, with Clinical Competence Certificate (CCC). Will consider applicants completing Clinical Fellowship Year or CFY.
Evidence of professional expertise in teaching as documented by a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology with ASHA certification within one year.
• Eligible for Oregon Board of Medical Licensure.

This position involves working in homes, preschools, and clinic situations. Employee must be able to travel to locations throughout Lane County that are not serviced by public transportation.

Professional Competencies
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff and community populations
• Ability to interact effectively with children while providing speech therapy, including bending, kneeling or sitting at child size tables and chairs.
• Potential for clinical program leadership through clinical mentorship of UO practicum students and group instruction of parents and children in speech language techniques.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with developing, instructing, and implementing speech and language programs and providing treatment to preschool age children from birth to school age.
• Experience with evaluation and monitoring of speech and language skills and development.
• Experience in providing instruction, consultation and support to families, teachers, classroom staff, and other care providers.
• Experience in developing and monitoring IFSP's, especially identifying and writing speech and language goals and outcomes.
• Experience training and supervising staff.
• Experience and knowledge of the Head Start Program and service delivery system.
• Experience teaching small group activities with children and parents.
• Experience with augmentative and alternative communication modes.
• Bilingual individuals preferred (English/Spanish).
