The HEDCO Clinic is a multi-disciplinary, innovative training clinic within the College of Education offering children and families evidenced-based assessments, therapy, and tutoring services. The HEDCO Clinic consists of training and service clinics – including the Communication Disorders and Sciences (CDS) Program, Couples and Family Therapy (CFT) Program, Center on Teaching and Learning (CTL), Diagnostic Assessment Clinic (LD/ADHD), Child and Family Therapy Clinic, and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) – operating within the College of Education and serving the community of Eugene-Springfield and greater Lane County. The clinic has a student clinician staff of approximately one hundred and thirty graduate students and over fifty faculty and supervisors.
Students seeking careers as counseling and school psychologists, couples and family therapists, board certified behavior analysts, and speech-language pathologists gain practical experience. The clinic is staffed by a team of faculty and graduate students who provide comprehensive, evidence-based services across the lifespan (ages 2-92). The clinic provides services in the areas of autism, learning disability, speech and language therapy, cognitive and brain injury interventions, reading and mathematics tutoring, individual child and adult therapy, as well as couples and family counseling. The HEDCO Clinic provides more than 4,000 client appointments to more than 700 clients every year. The David and Nancy Petrone Fellow in the HEDCO Clinic blends clinical and research activities that are tailored to the individual interests and training needs of the fellow. Clinical activities will focus on direct delivery of evidence-based child and adolescent interventions, supervision of graduate students in the implementation of these various interventions and diagnostic assessment (50% time). The fellow's remaining time (50%) is spent conducting research activities, including but not limited to grant preparation and submissions, scholarly writing and publications, and overseeing the implementation and delivery of clinical research interventions and protocols.
Additional activities may include coordinating and collaborating with Clinic personnel and faculty on existing HEDCO Clinic projects (including research studies, training, and technical assistance projects) and performing other relevant HEDCO Clinic and professional service activities. The position will be based in the HEDCO clinic but will also work with the Prevention Science Institute (https://psi.uoregon.edu/).
Our commitment at the College of Education is to provide a comprehensive training opportunity where the post-doctoral fellow acquires competence in child and adolescent clinical and research activities. This position works closely with faculty providing services in the HEDCO clinic, as well as faculty conducting research at the Prevention Science Institute (https://psi.uoregon.edu/) and will be mentored by the Julie and Keith Thomson Director and Faculty Chair as well as other faculty members within in the College of Education.
This position is a limited duration postdoctoral appointment potentially renewable for up to a total of two years.
• PhD in a related ﬁeld (counseling, clinical, school) by start of position.
• Evidence of scholarship (e.g. publications, presentations, grant submissions).
• Experience using advanced methodologies.
• Completion of child-focused APA-accredited internship.
• Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
• Interpersonal skills that foster teamwork and collaboration, the ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects and staff.
• Passion for working with children, adolescents, and families and a solid foundation in evidence-based treatments for this population.
• Demonstrated understanding of operational requirements for a successful research project and managing resources.
• Skills in implementing research, training, or technical assistance projects.
• Knowledge and application of the principles underpinning successful grant application.
• Ability to identify and fulfill the academic writing requirements for target publications.
• Ability to produce verbal and written communication appropriate for a range of audiences, including scholarly reports, publications and case notes.
• Desire and ability to foster and engage in interdisciplinary, collaborative research, training, or technical assistance.
• Experience with outpatient treatment, particularly from behavioral and/or cognitive-behavioral theoretical orientations.
• Experience managing research data sets, knowledge of a range of research methodologies (group experimental, correlational, single-subject experimental, qualitative), advanced data analysis skills, and competencies with advanced statistical software.
• Experience working directly on Federal grants.
• Experience writing Federal grant applications either individually or with a team.
• Advanced quantitative methodology skills and training (e.g. causal modeling, nested designs).
• Experience working with children and families.
• Experience working with high-risk families.
• Experience working with children with special needs.
• Experience with longitudinal research studies.
• Demonstrated experience delivering professional workshops and conference presentations.
