The Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact is a billion-dollar initiative designed to fast-track scientific discoveries and the process of turning those discoveries into innovations that improve the quality of life for people in Oregon, the nation and beyond. The Knight Campus will reshape the higher education landscape in Oregon by training the next generations of scientists, forging tighter ties with industry and entrepreneurs and creating new educational opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students.
Ong Lab focuses on the development of new sensors and devices for medical applications, with emphasis on regenerative medicine for orthopedic care. Ongoing projects include the development of internal bone fixation plates that can monitor the healing conditions and provide mechanical loads to maximize bone regeneration; various wireless sensor technologies for other medical applications and environmental monitoring; and a new sensor system that can continuously track the microenvironment of cells in a bioreactor. Ong Lab is currently looking for researchers with interest in implantable device development and/or electronic circuits design.
The Postdoctoral Scholar will be responsible for conducting research and technical activities related to ongoing projects in Dr. Ong's lab. This position will research, design, and implement implantable devices and other associated electronics, and will manage, maintain and provide technical expertise for Ong lab equipment, protocols, and programs.
For the purpose of acquiring additional professional skills needed to pursue a career path in the chosen field, this position will have a formal mentor plan.
• Ph.D in Electrical, Biomedical, or other relevant engineering field
• Lab experience in electrical, bioengineering or related field in a university setting
• Strong academic record in major field
• Demonstrated strong written communications skills
• Technical, research and/or analytic experience in a corporate or university setting as an intern or an employee
• Experience with circuit design and fabrication
• Experience with computer and microcontroller programming
