The University-wide COVID-19 Monitoring and Assessment Program (COVID-19-MAP), through an assignment to the Prevention Science Institute (PSI) at the University of Oregon, coordinates staffing to implement development and execution of MAP’s SARS-CoV-2 sample collection and community testing efforts. Housed within the Office of the Vice President of Research and Innovation (OVPRI), PSI is a multi-disciplinary institute focused on understanding human development, preventing behavioral health problems, and implementing effective interventions in community settings. The core mission of the PSI is to improve the lives and well-being of children, individuals, and families throughout the lifespan. PSI works with the COVID-19-MAP leadership team, and under its direction, assists in leadership, staffing human subjects research teams, and coordinates with community partners and liaisons.
The Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx-UP) grant serves to scale-up SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) testing to Latinx communities throughout the state. We will collaborate with 6 or more counties to implement a total of 36 sites and will work with community organizations to create and implement community navigator interventions (Promotores). This project has the potential to enhance COVID-19 testing access and reach for a significantly underserved population that is vulnerable to SARS-CoV-2 transmission and who is at increased risk for severe COVID-19 symptoms. The RADx-UP Field Coordinator provides key coordination and support for testing and data collection activities throughout Latinx communities in Oregon.
This position will be responsible for coordination with the COVID-19 MAP lab and requires compliance with the human subject IRB process and HIPAA. The Field Coordinator trains and supervises a team of testing facilitators, oversees the tracking and completion of testing site collections, and ensures collection of any accompanying survey data.
This position requires travel to multiple community COVID-19 testing locations within a region, and potentially across Oregon. This position requires access to reliable and confidential transportation. The Field Coordinator will work under the guidance and the support of the Scientific Coordinator, and requires the ability to work a five-hour shift in full personal protective equipment.
The position will last 7 months (February 1 through August 31), with a possibility of going longer if COVID-19 testing is still needed and funding is secured.
• Fluent bilingual Spanish-English speaker.
• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Biology, Human Physiology, Education, Public Policy, or related field OR equivalent experience in medical, human services, or related field.
• Two years of experience including supervision; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Demonstrated ability to adhere to confidentially requirements and other regulations. HIPAA training and biosafety training will be required.
• Demonstrated competency in supervision; leadership skills and the ability to manage a team of 3-10 people.
• Computer and Excel proficiency and ability to troubleshoot some technical issues.
• Knowledge of spoken and written English and Spanish sufficient to obtain, provide, or exchange information. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a specific capacity for sensitivity, confidentiality, diligence.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse populations in a culturally sensitive way.
• Familiarity with customer service techniques and the ability to enthusiastically and confidently relate project information.
• Highly efficient and organized approach to work and strong attention to detail and thoroughness.
• Ability to manage multiple scheduling issues; exceptional time management skills.
• Ability to respond quickly and thoughtfully should logistical problems arise at a testing site.
• Ability to learn quickly and work independently, with supervision as needed.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Experience working in a team environment, requiring participatory decision-making and cooperative interactions among employees.
• Experience facilitating outreach activities or research activities with participants and/or experience conducting standardized interviews.
• Experience recruiting for and/or collecting biospecimen samples.
• Experience managing human subjects’ protocols.
• Experience working in higher education research or outreach.
