Position Announcement
The School of Global Studies and Languages and the Harold Schnitzer Family Program in Judaic Studies at the University of Oregon invite applications for a named tenured/tenure-track professorship in Holocaust Studies to begin in Fall 2022. Field of specialization and rank are open, and a joint appointment between two home departments is possible.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a vibrant research and publication agenda in a field directly pertinent to Holocaust studies. Facility with German is expected. We also prefer a secondary research and/or teaching profile in contemporary neo-fascist and ethno-fascist movements.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda and teach a variety of courses including both introductory and specialized courses in the candidate’s home department(s) as well as in Judaic Studies. The successful candidate will also play an active role in training graduate students, and provide service to the Judaic Studies program, their home department(s), the campus, and the larger professional community.

Department or Program Summary
The Harold Schnitzer Family Program in Judaic Studies is a small-community Jewish Studies program at the University of Oregon. The program has a diverse and dynamic group of affiliated faculty and instructors with strengths in Nineteenth-century Jewish Literature, Medieval Judaism, Jewish History, the Hebrew Bible, Women in Judaism, Jewish Philosophy, Comics and Graphic Novels, Digital Humanities, and the Jewish Diaspora of Latin America.

The newly launched School of Global Studies and Languages, which includes 85 core faculty and 100 participating faculty, comprises three language and literature departments (East Asian, German-Scandinavian, and Romance Languages), the Global Studies department, six area studies programs, the global health and food studies programs, and the Yamada Language Center.

Minimum Requirements
• Ph.D. in history, literature, or related field
• Facility in German
• The candidate must also have general knowledge of Judaic Studies, and in particular be qualified to teach broad undergraduate courses, upper-division seminars, and courses at the graduate level

Preferred Qualifications
• Area of research specialization (AOS) in contemporary ethno-fascist movements
• Demonstrated teaching excellence
• Strong potential for and commitment to contributing to a culture of inclusive teaching and evidence of valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Strong potential to mentor undergraduate and graduate students
