Department Summary

The Erb Memorial Union (EMU) is a department of the Division of Student Life. The EMU is a multifaceted auxiliary service that employs over 90 professional staff and 400 student staff and serves over 15 thousand daily users during the academic year. The EMU welcomes students, faculty, staff, the community, and visitors to campus, and its mission is to provide learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth in an open, inclusive, and resource-rich community where students and staff collaborate to inspire and sustain extraordinary programs and services that promote diversity and social interaction. The EMU is student-centered and is operated in collaboration with a student Board, who are actively involved in determining the character and scope of the department and approves the budget recommendations of all EMU services and programs.

Position Summary

This position manages tenant relationships within the Erb Memorial Union and is responsible for the generation of over 1m in revenue annually. They are responsible for University ID Card Operations, the University Ticket Office, and Guest Services Operations, providing oversight and management and in some cases direct supervision of the services. The Assistant Director coordinates a marketing plan for these services and maintains up-to-date contracts and memos of understanding with the various building tenants. This position shares responsibility for developing the culture of the EMU and ensuring that the building services meet the needs of students at the University of Oregon.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience managing programs and services in a higher education setting.
• Experience managing a customer-service-oriented operation such as ID Card office or similar service unit.
• Five years of supervisory experience.

Professional Competencies

• Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to provide strong customer service, including public relations and communications skills.
• A proven record of budget management and revenue generation abilities.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Suite primarily Excel and database management

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Public Relations, Communication, Marketing or related field.
• Experience managing a Campus Cash system or retail declining balance program.
• Experience using Banner or a similar student information database system.
• Experience advising students.
• Comprehensive experience working in Student Union/Center on a College/University Campus with a strong understanding of the value of co-curricular experience.
• Marketing, sales, and/or communications experience.
