Position Summary

The Department of Bioengineering is seeking applicants for a yearlong basic/translational research position in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine for musculoskeletal applications.

In this position, the candidate will work on current research projects in the Willett Regenerative Labs: http://www.willett-regenerative-labs.com/
These projects include the development and testing of therapeutics for osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal disorders; investigating novel treatment compounds, among other projects. As a part of this position, the candidate will be able to develop their own project, with support provided to prepare a journal publication, poster, or presentation. There will also be opportunities for protocol development, preparing IRBs, and grant submission. The candidate will also have the opportunity to shadow clinical collaborators at Emory and the Atlanta VA Medical Center, gain exposure to clinical research, and explore opportunities for career development.

Interested candidates should have prior research experience, preferably in a biosciences-related field, be familiar with common laboratory techniques, be able to work independently, have excellent communication skills, and be comfortable reviewing scientific literature. Candidates should also know basic software (Office, Acrobat, etc). Programming experience and familiarity with MATLAB, LabVIEW, and other similar software is beneficial but not required.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in bioengineering, biochemistry, biology, biophysics, physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related disciplines
• One year of work experience (or graduate school experience) in a research laboratory

Professional Competencies

• Ability to carry out and troubleshoot laboratory protocols
• Ability to communicate effectively, in both written and interpersonal formats
• Ability to work both independently, in a small group setting, and one-on-one with students, other staff, and collaborators in a positive and productive manner
• Excellent organizational skills and careful attention to details
• High level of self-motivation and integrity

Preferred Qualifications

Research experience related to molecular biology, cell and tissue culture, animal research, biomedical engineering, biomechanics, or material science
