Department Summary

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the hub of learning, research, and academic excellence at the University of Oregon. This position is in an Academic Service Unit (ASU), which houses staff and managers who provide administrative, strategic, and operations support to multiple academic departments in CAS. This position is in ASU3, which works with Arabic Studies, Classics, Comparative Literature, English Department (includes Disability Studies, Comic & Cartoon Studies, WSCR (Writing, Public Speaking, and Critical Reasoning), and Digital Humanities) & Composition Program, Folklore & Public Culture Program, Humanities, Medieval Studies, Philosophy (includes Ethics Minor), Politics Culture and Identity, and Religious Studies.

Position Summary

The Accounting Technician position provides transaction-level support to departments and programs within CAS. Depending on the particular assignment at a given time, the person in the position will perform tasks such as: processing payables, reimbursements and other purchasing transactions; entering journal vouchers; general tracking and administration of projects and tasks; reconciling and reporting on college, department and faculty funds using the University’s systems; basic financial analysis; and other business-related tasks.

This position may work closely with other administrative staff, managers, directors, and faculty in a variety of units within CAS.

Minimum Requirements

• 12 quarter hours (8 semester hours) of Accounting courses, AND
• An Associates Degree in Accounting; OR
• One year of experience that includes entering, compiling and/or reporting financial information; OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Professional Competencies

• Knowledge of, or ability to learn, UO fiscal policies, practices, processes, and apply these in daily work transactions.
• Knowledge of, or ability to learn, accounting and travel software programs.
• Demonstrated high level of discretion and professional integrity.
• Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to manage a variety of tasks with various deadlines.
• Ability to trace, document, and resolve problems using an accounting system.
• Adaptability in an environment of change.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills to work with faculty and staff from multiple units.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in public sector fund accounting and/or higher education.
