Department Summary

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI) serves as an advocate and catalyst within the University of Oregon (UO) for expanding the range and impact of UO's research, scholarship, and creative endeavors. The OVPRI oversees sponsored programs, research compliance, technology transfer, economic development, industry engagement, research-based ventures, and research development and administrative responsibility for numerous high-profile research centers and institutes and core research facilities, which provide opportunities for faculty across the university to collaborate on research efforts that are inherently interdisciplinary, and of significant societal importance. Position Summary

The Research Training and Development Coordinator (RTDC) within OVPRI will be responsible for managing multiple aspects of learning, training, and career development for researchers and administrators across the University of Oregon’s research enterprise. The purpose of the position is to develop, coordinate, and/or deliver research training and professional development in the form of courses and workshops that will support and accelerate the success of colleagues across our research community.

Responsibilities include the design and implementation of programming (including scheduling and day-of event support for in-person events); providing resources to faculty, staff, and students; developing curricula in collaboration with directors, faculty, and appropriate research units; supporting the evaluation of training programs; and tracking metrics for success. This position will assist with the development and coordination of a comprehensive university-wide research training program for sponsored projects and department research administrators, as well as faculty-facing training on topics including, but not limited to, grant development and management, human subjects research protection, and compliance (such as federal or state-sponsored requirements for responsible conduct of research and export control).

This role will manage multiple projects on various timelines from development to delivery to post-program evaluation; prepare and deliver educational resources for diverse audiences; support OVPRI’s efforts to meet federal and state accessibility regulations; advise on and utilize appropriate training formats and Learning Management Systems for program delivery; and maintain current knowledge of additional instructional resources to support continuous improvement. This position provides expertise and continuity across the programs, serving faculty, staff, and students. This role works with (and utilizes as necessary) instructors, practitioners, and subject matter experts across multiple disciplines. To best serve our research community, the RTCD will develop a consistent approach and process for creating and sharing educational and training tools for in-person and online/virtual synchronous and asynchronous training as appropriate.

The RTDC collaborates with OVPRI leaders and a wide-ranging set of colleagues and campus partners to identify training needs and develop new trainings, as well as update existing educational resources to comply with compliance expectations and ensure cohesive branding across platforms and content. These partners include, but are not limited to, senior leadership in other divisions, managers of OVPRI units, faculty, and other administrators. This position also works with OVPRI leadership to assess program effectiveness, analyze trends, facilitate program evaluations, and identify best practices to continuously improve program offerings and track results.

Success in this position includes the development of a robust suite of trainings using best practices and state-of-the-art tools and Learning Management Systems. Additional responsibilities include preparing pre- and post-training evaluations and assessments, providing/using analytics for continual improvement, maintaining training calendars, scheduling and coordinating room set-up and participant notifications, presenting at departmental meetings, and leading special projects as assigned.

The RTDC reports to the Assistant Vice President and Chief of Staff. The position is full-time and based out of Eugene, Oregon, however hybrid work requests may be considered. All adjusted work arrangements require supervisor and leadership approval.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years of progressive experience developing and administering training or learning programs via in-person, virtual, and/or asynchronous platforms.
• Experience in developing and/or supporting evaluation and assessment.
• Professional experience focused on research administration or other regulatory compliance in an active research setting or similar complex organization such as medical or higher ed.

• Demonstrated proficiency with learning platforms and programs, including virtual webinar platforms (i.e., Zoom, WebEx), learning management systems (i.e., Canvas), and MS Office Suite (or similar).
• Demonstrated proficiency in Qualtrics or similar survey development and analysis tools, with the ability to quantitatively assess the effectiveness of training materials and methods.
• Demonstrated cultural competency and success working in a multicultural environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
• Ability to analyze and implement changes or improvements as needed; ability to assess situations and take initiative as appropriate to resolve issues or solve problems.
• Demonstrated high-level organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively in a detail-oriented and time-sensitive environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with or ability to work with subject matter experts to develop and deliver training materials for a diverse set of topics, preferably in a research or university setting.
• Experience with or ability to teach courses and workshops in multiple formats (in person, asynchronous, hybrid).
• Experience using a variety of software/Learning Management systems for the development of training in a variety of media formats.
• Knowledge of and ability to follow best practices in adult learning, accessibility standards, and policies regarding content creation.
• Experience and/or education in instructional design and educational pedagogy.
