Department Summary
The Office of Admissions is responsible for attracting, recruiting, and enrolling a highly qualified, diverse student body. It has overall responsibility for representing the University to prospective students and their families at a variety of venues including campus events, high schools and colleges in Oregon and throughout the United States, and at selected international locations. Guided by a strong commitment to excellent customer service, the office supports students throughout the application and enrollment process. Each year the office researches and responds to close to 100,000 inquiries related to the admissions process as well as evaluating approximately 30,000 applications for admission. The work is completed within University admission standards, policies, as well as related state and federal laws and regulations. Admission is offered to approximately 18,000 students and results in the enrollment of nearly 5,500 new undergraduates each year.
Position Summary
The Admissions Specialist position provides specialized admissions office support by processing and evaluating freshman, transfer, and graduate applications for admission and to research application problems such as application fees, missing information, name changes, etc. This position must follow the UO admission requirements for all freshman, transfer, and graduate applicants. This position must also make sure the integrity of the student information system data is accurate for statistical reporting.
Minimum Requirements
• Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents;
OR
• An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology;
OR
• Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience.
College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Professional Competencies
• Ability to work under pressure and complete large volumes of work on deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in higher education.
• Experience with data management systems.
