What will you do as a Facilities Engineer 1?

The purpose of this position is to provide design, implementation and field support of capital projects for the Engineering and Utilities team. This may include: investigation of system failures, research and implementation of corrective action, and assisting colleagues with design of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems for small projects and renovations.

This position conducts field investigations on a large range of construction projects and in collaboration with the contractor and consultants works to resolve problems that arise during construction by applying engineering principles and recommending solutions to ensure MEP systems and components are installed and operating as designed. The position plays a key role in project design review activities, document management, equipment tracking and identifying QA/QC issues in the field and assisting with corrective action.

You will interact daily with the campus and larger community in the course of performing work and responding to emergencies. Position works as a member of a team while frequently performing tasks independently. Decisions may be made about the best method and materials necessary to ensure continuous flow of utilities in normal and emergency situations. They may also include setting priorities and troubleshooting, restoring utilities when lost, assessing customer needs and responding to those needs. Position may coordinate the work of students.

What you need to be considered for this role… (Minimum Qualifications)

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management Engineering, or Energy Management Engineering; OR
  • An Associate's degree in engineering or a related technical area such as Civil Engineering, Building Construction, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Structural Engineering and two years of engineer-type experience which includes project field data collection and analysis; estimating project costs; and designing projects with specification development and materials selection; OR
  • An equivalent combination of related training and experience.

Campus Planning and Facilities Management (CPFM) is a vibrant department, which comprises five units, and approximately 270 employees: Facilities Services, Utilities & Energy, Campus Planning, Office of Sustainability, and Design & Construction. The Office of Design and Construction (D&C) works closely with Facilities personnel, faculty, and staff across campus to deliver successful, budget-conscious projects.
