Department Summary

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI) serves as an advocate and catalyst within the University of Oregon (UO) for expanding the range and impact of UO's research, scholarship, and creative endeavors. The OVPRI oversees sponsored programs, research compliance, technology transfer, economic development, industry engagement, research-based ventures, and research development and administrative responsibility for numerous high-profile research centers and institutes and core research facilities, which provide opportunities for faculty across the university to collaborate on research efforts that are inherently interdisciplinary, and of significant societal importance. As a university that holds the distinction of a “very high research activity” ranking (R1) in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, the UO is also one of only two Pacific Northwest members of the Association of American Universities (AAU). OVPRI, including centers and institutes, has over 700 employees across faculty, classified and unclassified staff, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate and undergraduate students, with a $45m annual budget. The Research Operations unit is comprised of more than twenty-five financial, technology, and administrative staff that ensure the smooth operations of this organization. The Research Operations portfolio spans activities from a major technology upgrade for research administration, managing faculty startup distributions, research core administrative operations, human resource development, research data analysis, financial budgeting, and, reporting and forecasting tools.

Position Summary

Research Data Analytics Manager (University of Oregon; Eugene, OR): Conduct analyses to identify, understand, and anticipate trends in research funding, research productivity, and economic impact at the campus and national levels. Conduct financial and other data analyses related to research, sponsored projects, innovation and entrepreneurship, and develop and implement systems to efficiently track and report sponsored project data and the performance of research administration and compliance units. Collaborate with offices in the division and across the university. Develop dashboards, reporting trends and analyses that answer critical questions facing University of Oregon (UO) in the areas of sponsored projects, research administration, innovation, economic development, research excellence, and financial forecasting. Identify appropriate methodologies, procedures, timelines, and other campus partners necessary to complete projects in an accurate and timely way. Analyze data, prepare reports, and present findings for the purposes of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI) and in response to the needs of other UO offices as well as external constituencies. Serve on the UO Onward strategic planning committee, contributing to developing key performance indicators (KPIs) and leading indicators and strategy recommendations that are currently being utilized by institutional leadership for decision-making on improved student experience, outcomes, and career preparation. Supervise student employees (2) in executing project tasks and providing guidance on project requirements, and fostering technical and soft skill development while overseeing and maintaining accurate records of reports for record keeping and compliance tracking.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Business Administration, Data Analytics, or related field, plus one (1) year of experience as a Research Data Analytics Manager, Research and Data Analyst, or related occupation.

Must have experience with the following: transforming and analyzing large datasets; statistical packages: Stata, SAS, R, SPSS, or Python; synthesizing diverse datasets (financial and employee) from multiple sources while prioritizing data accuracy and upholding data integrity standards; identifying trends and developing forecasts using suitable data models; creating presentations and dashboards, and communicating data insights using visualization tools (Power BI and Tableau); report writing skills and data visualization in data warehouses; gathering and synthesizing data for district-wide or complex organization surveys; data analysis processes for financial audits; data migration related to new system implementation; data governance and spearheading innovative systems for guiding data management; and developing tools and systems that provide data accessibility.
