Department Summary

The Office of the Provost (OtP) upholds, provides leadership on, and carries out the academic mission of the University. Within OtP, the Assistant Vice Provost for Data and Decision Support works closely within the academic affairs team to provide data analysis, support assessment, and improvement projects, and develop tools to support academic program assessment.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Data and Decision Support, the Data Analyst is responsible for supporting the collection and analysis of data related to student and faculty success. The Data Analyst will collaborate with the academic affairs team to ensure prioritized areas of academic affairs are informed by relevant data.

The person in this position will identify available data and build queries and reports to understand trends. They will prepare standard and ad hoc reports with their audience in mind, providing analysis and insights that support decision-makers. They will create data tools and reports that expand the use of data to improve student and faculty success efforts.

The data analyst works independently to complete projects involving data collection, data cleaning, analysis, and reporting with support from the Assistant Vice Provost for Data and Decision Support. The person must be committed to using data to support internal decision-makers and implementing an equity-minded approach to data analysis and presentation.

This is a one-year position, eligible for renewal up to 3 years and beyond as funding permits. 

Minimum Requirements

• Three years of research experience applying research methods, procedures, and techniques in Data Analysis; applying statistical and forecasting principles and procedures; planning and designing research projects; writing technical research reports and/or documents; and using statistical computer software packages; OR
• An equivalent combination of training and experience.

• Ability to clearly communicate complex information with varying levels of detail as appropriate for different contexts and audiences.
• Ability to obtain and exchange information with sensitivity, maintaining appropriate levels of confidentiality.
• Ability to implement equity-minded data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with data queries, cleaning, visualization, and analysis.
• Demonstrated experience using relational data sets or creating database reports using Cognos or similar programs.
• Demonstrated experience with qualitative data analysis.
• Graduate-level coursework in statistics, research methods, data management, or programming or relevant experience.
• Interest in and experience with higher education teaching or assessment.
