Department Summary

Information Services (IS) is the central information technology organization at the University of Oregon, delivering a broad range of technology and services to the University. IS consists of four major functional areas, each led by a direct report to the VP-CIO: Customer Experience and Artificial Intelligence, which serves as the key contact point for interactions with campus clients and customers; Enterprise Solutions, which manages and supports applications, integration services, identity management and data management; Information Security, which helps protect virtual or physical information; and Technology Infrastructure, which provides engineering and support for research IT services and high-performance computing, networking, compute, storage, voice, data centers, audio-visual and classroom technologies, and UO staff supporting Link Oregon, Oregon’s state-wide research and education network.

Position Summary

The Application Service Administrator manages and supports the University of Oregon’s various business applications. The Applications Service Administrator will manage application services and provide business process analysis, application administration, configuration, change management, testing, maintenance and support for cloud based/SaaS and on-premise business applications. The position works with end users as well as other technical staff from data management, middleware, software development, and user support services teams to support solutions for campus stakeholders.

Information Services relies on this position to use excellent judgment in troubleshooting escalated application issues, including the ability to analyze issues and facilitate escalations to vendors, developers, supervisors, other colleagues, or leaders/team members of related services, projects or initiatives. This position works independently with minimal supervision.

The effect of decisions the incumbent in this position makes may impact clients with sensitive or valuable data, related projects, and large populations of the campus community.

This position has no budgetary authority but may make recommendations to the Director of Business Applications.

Minimum Requirements

• This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills of technology and information systems generally obtained through an AA degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified course work in applicable fields of study and at least one year of related work experience.

• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. The incumbent must be able to communicate with a wide range of users and partners, as well as with students, faculty, and staff from a variety of diverse backgrounds
• Ability to analyze user requirements and determine appropriate solutions
• Ability to work independently, work accurately with details, demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, and judgment in prioritizing tasks
• Ability to interpret policies and procedures and apply these interpretations to specific, non-routine situations
• Ability to produce thorough documentation and prepare and review periodic reports
• Ability to manage vendor relationships and interactions
• An understanding of the security and confidentiality issues involved in safeguarding institutional data
• Ability to interpret and troubleshoot application problems
• Demonstrated ability to participate in and complete technological projects and work collaboratively with a team of diverse IT professionals, clients, and partners.
• Ability to evaluate technology resource needs and recommend solutions
• Ability to analyze and correct system faults\errors through detailed log analysis

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience or certification in ITIL or other technology industry-based framework
• Experience administering SaaS systems, managing access and entitlement provisioning
• Experience in higher education or a similar sector
