Department Summary

The Office of the Dean provides strategic leadership and administrative support for the College of Design (DSGN), a multidisciplinary academic unit comprising approximately 80 tenure-related faculty members, 85 non-tenure-related faculty members, 40 staff, and 1,900 student majors across 9 departments and programs offering 23 degree programs. With operations in both Eugene and Portland and an annual operating budget of $31 million, the Dean’s Office plays a central role in ensuring cohesive academic leadership and a vibrant, future-focused educational environment.

The Dean’s Office oversees core administrative functions including fiscal services (budgeting, contracting, and payroll), facilities management (such as space scheduling in Lawrence Hall), foundational communications, and technology support. It also coordinates with key internal and external advisory groups including the Dean’s Council and the Dean’s Faculty Advisory Committee, to strengthen community and industry partnerships, support faculty development, guide strategic planning, and promote equity and inclusion initiatives.

Position Summary

The Assistant Director for Academic Scheduling and Instruction Management provides enrollment management, program assessment, and strategic leadership aligning, developing, and planning an efficient course schedule and registration practices each term for the College of Design (DSGN) undergraduate and graduate programs in Eugene and Portland. Decisions made in this position include implementing departmental priorities, developing procedures, appropriately interpreting, and applying established policies and procedures, and recommending appropriate actions regarding confidential issues.

This position has the unique opportunity to strategically plan, develop, align, and implement multiple curricular plans under one overarching schedule and process. This role will focus on developing, leading, managing, and analyzing DSGN’s current complex scheduling system and will identify course trends and outcomes, conducting analysis for strategic planning, policy formulation, and enrollment management. This position will also collaborate with DSGN leadership to strategically manage DSGN’s building space for instructional purposes.

Working directly with the Associate Dean for Finance & Administration, DSGN faculty leadership, and staff within the college units, the Assistant Director will provide guidance to faculty related to curriculum, application requirements, long-term academic planning, and scheduling to ensure curricular improvements are delivered effectively. This position will lead the development of the DSGN curricular team.

This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Finance & Administration.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree.
• Two years of program/project management experience.
• Two years of experience working with detailed processes, databases, and operations.

An equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 6 years will be considered.

• Proficiency with MS Office Suite (or similar). Ability to produce professional correspondence, documents, data reports, and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using Banner and COGNOS reporting systems.
• Experience with course scheduling protocols.
• Experience in working at the University of Oregon or a higher education setting.
• Experience managing and understanding a large quantity of complex data.
