Department Summary

Campus Planning and Facilities Management (CPFM) is a vibrant department, which comprises five units, and approximately 270 employees: Facilities Services, Utilities & Energy, Campus Planning, Office of Sustainability, and Design & Construction. The units of CPFM strive to provide excellent customer service to the University of Oregon campus and operate with the highest professional standards, communicating and collaborating with customers to support the stewardship of the campus.

Facilities Services (FS) is responsible for the management of human, financial and material resources, the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures related to the operation, maintenance, repair and minor renovation of university buildings, grounds and infrastructure systems. These services provide the University of Oregon community with a safe, efficient, reliable, functional and aesthetically pleasing learning environment in support of the University’s mission and vision.

The Paint Shop provides a safe and quality environment for students, staff, and community through maintenance and repair of interior and exterior facility architectural systems and components. This includes maintenance, repair, and installation of finish and coating systems.

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide technical support in helping achieve overall University of Oregon goals by performing the duties of a painter for Facilities Services. This department believes that each employee makes a significant contribution to our success. It is our expectation that each employee will offer their services whenever and wherever necessary to ensure the success of our endeavors.

This position will often be responsible for all stages of a painting job. Preparing for each painting job by inspecting and prepping the work site, as well as preparing equipment and staff needed. This includes prepping the surface areas and the necessary coating materials, some mixing of materials to achieve the color and/or consistency required. This position will be responsible for the application of a wide variety of coating materials by brush, roller, and/or sprayer. Upon completion of a painting job and between work orders, this position will also be responsible for cleaning, servicing, and repairing all equipment necessary to completing the work. This also includes ordering and stocking supplies, tracking time and materials, and other miscellaneous job related tasks.

This position does not have budget authority. The Painter can be expected to provide direction, training and guidance to student paint crew(s). Interactions/contacts occur daily with the campus community in the course of performing work and responding to emergencies. Position works as a member of a team while frequently performing tasks independently. The Painter will be assigned a van with their own equipment and will be expected to complete tasks independently and as a team. Decisions may be made about the best method and materials necessary to perform a particular task. They may also include setting priorities, assessing customer needs and responding to those needs. Work is reviewed regularly by the supervisor to ensure it is performed efficiently, safely, and meets both expectations and applicable requirements. A performance appraisal is conducted annually.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL
This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.

DRIVER'S REQUIREMENT
It is an essential requirement of this position to qualify for and maintain UO driver's certification eligibility, which includes maintaining an Oregon driver’s license throughout employment in this position.

WORK SCHEDULE
This position works graveyard shift, four 10-hour shifts per week. The work schedule is 8:00 pm - 6:30 am Monday night through Friday morning.

Minimum Requirements

• Completed painter apprenticeship training and be a journey worker; OR
• Three years of varied painting experience.
