Position Summary
The Pharmacy Cashier is a critical component of a pharmacy’s customer service and financial operations. We are looking for a detail-oriented, friendly, and reliable individual to join our team and provide an exceptional experience for our customers. The ideal candidate would be able to work efficiently under pressure, handle sensitive information with confidentiality, and have a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
Primary duties for the Pharmacy Cashier include:
• Greet patients, accept prescription drop offs, confirm University Health Services eligibility, ring up prescription and over the counter (OTC) items, and make appropriate change for the transaction
• Receive deliveries and shelve prescription products and OTC merchandise
• Keep the pharmacy neat and orderly by cleaning counters, emptying garbage, and dealing with confidential recycling
• Audit OTC and prescription drugs for expiration dates and collaborate with Pharmacy Technician to remove from inventory
• Resolve customer complaints in a professional and timely manner and involve Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist when necessary
• Answer general questions about pharmacy processes like prescription transfers, prior authorizations, when refills are too soon for insurance billing, and pharmacy clinical appointments
• Check in patients for pharmacy clinical appointments
• Close pharmacy cash register at the end of the day
Work Schedule:
This position is a 9-month position and works during the academic year. Employment of academic year employees may be extended into the breaks and/or summer term to meet the departmental and/or operational needs of the UHS.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and/or System of Award Management (SAM). In addition, employee must follow Compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements.
Minimum Requirements
• Six months of cashiering experience exchanging money for purchases and making change. (Training or experience should have included operating a calculator or ten-key adding machine by touch, and using a computer and keyboard.)
Professional Competencies
• Ability to handle cash and make accurate change for customers
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of pharmacy products and services
• Experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in a pharmacy setting
• Experience in a customer service role
• Experience operating a Point of Sale (POS) device
