Department Summary
The Office of Admissions includes over 50 staff who are engaged in the work of recruitment and outreach to prospective undergraduates, and making admission decisions on all applicants for freshman, transfer, and post-baccalaureate undergraduate admission. Admissions is a unit of the Division of StudentServices & Enrollment Management and works closely with several other units of that division, especially Scholarships/Financial Aid and Orientation, as well as many other parts of campus.
Within Admissions, the operations & processing team that includes this position is a dynamic group of professionals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives who are charged with the implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of the application process for applicants to the University of Oregon. This team effectively reviews over 40,000 applications for admission each year and provides support and expertise to applicants and the broader Admissions team to ensure accurate application data and timely communication. In light of the university’s growing presence around the US and beyond, we are adding to this dedicated staff in order to accomplish even more in our work.
Position Summary
The purpose of the Admissions Specialist position is to provide specialized admissions office support by processing and evaluating freshman, transfer, and graduate applications for admission and to research application problems such as application fees, missing information, name changes, etc. This position must follow the UO admission requirements for all freshman, transfer, and graduate applicants. This position must also make sure the integrity of the student information system data is accurate for statistical reporting.
Work Schedule
This position works a nine-month, seasonal, recurring schedule during peak processing in the Admissions Office.
Minimum Requirements
• Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents;
OR
• An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology;
OR
• Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience.
College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Professional Competencies
• Ability to work under pressure and complete large volumes of work on deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in higher education.
• Experience with data management systems.
