Position Summary
As a Food Service Worker 3 (FSW3), you are part of an energetic team designed to support the work unit by performing a wide range of food service activities such as staff coordination, customer service, food prep, cooking, and serving, as well as directing other staff in these activities. Your responsibility involves making decisions related to the efficient operation of food service lines, prioritizing activities performed by lower-level food service workers, and ensuring that facilities meet UO cleanliness and safety guidelines.
You will provide ongoing training throughout the year to Food Service Worker 2 (FSW2) staff and student employees, working in conjunction with other dining staff to create a trend-setting dining experience for our Ducks. Strong customer service skills are essential, as you will interact directly with students, staff, and faculty. You will adhere to the Service Standards set by Housing Food Services and set the example for other level positions by exhibiting appropriate professional behavior and creating a respectful and inclusive work environment.
Your shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays, and schedules may change based on the operational needs of the unit. Work conditions and physical requirements are typical of those found in the food service industry, including slippery floors, extreme temperatures, heavy lifting, and standing for long periods.
Special requirements include having or obtaining a Lane County Food Handler’s card within 2 weeks of employment, taking and understanding Hazard Communication Training supplied by the employer, and being able to interpret menus and worksheets, prepare usage reports, and understand policies, procedures, and safety information.
As essential personnel, you are required to make every reasonable effort to arrive at the campus at your regularly scheduled times during inclement weather and/or university closures unless otherwise notified by your supervisor or manager. This includes times when the university may be closed, and you must provide reliable and current contact information at all times.
Minimum Requirements
• Three years of experience in a commercial food service facility;
OR
• An Associate Degree in Food Service Management.
Professional Competencies
• Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Ability to prioritize duties, maintain a professional demeanor, and provide excellent customer service during rush periods.
• Ability to calculate and interpret recipes.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with supervision or lead work, including experience training others in food service skills.
• Knowledge, skills, and ability to operate common institutional food service equipment and to grill, broil, sauté, braise, bake, steam, cut, mix, and mash.
