Department Summary
The Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact is an ambitious initiative designed to fast-track scientific discoveries into innovations that improve the quality of life for people in Oregon, the nation, and the world. The campus creates the intellectual infrastructure to establish Oregon as a center for both research and development, making Oregon a place where companies can start-up and grow. The Knight Campus is reshaping the higher education landscape in Oregon by training the next generations of scientists, forging tighter ties with industry and entrepreneurs, and creating new educational opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students. The Knight Campus supports a dynamic externally sponsored research portfolio, a diverse set of graduate academic programming, innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives and an active external affairs program.
The Senior Associate Vice President for Academics and Research (SAVPAR) oversees a growing portfolio in the Knight Campus. The Knight Campus anticipates exponential growth beginning in FY25 as we launch major recruiting/hiring efforts through FY31 in support of our goals for Phase 2. Our current plans include growing from 11 TTF positions in FY24 to 30 by FY31, with at least 3 additional senior NTTF PIs. As such our research program alone will exceed 350 personnel and oversight of an estimated $13million+ in federally funded research. The SAVPAR supervises and manages research facilities including a minimum of three core facilities: an x-ray imaging core, a clean room, and a Biocharacterization and Bioanalysis facility. On the academic side, we currently have three separate academic programs ranging from UG minors to applied master’s programs to a PhD program in Bioengineering. We anticipate our master’s program to expand in volume of students and new tracks beginning in FY26 and additional engineering and applied science programs are in the planning stages for execution between now and FY31. The SAVPAR provides vision and oversight for all these activities.
A distinctive feature of the Knight Campus is an emphasis on training for all community members: students and employees. The SAVPAR leads the way on training primarily through the IMPACT team,
a cross-discipline group of professionals charged with developing and implementing activities and resources to support the professional and educational growth of our students and research employees in the areas called out in our strategic plan. Members of the Impact Team come from the Knight Campus, SOJC, the Libraries, and Lundquist. The Team began work in support of tenure-related Knight Campus faculty and has grown, and is expected to extend further, to support the PhD program, postdoc fellows, and early career faculty. The Team provides inspiration and support to professional development activities for other areas of the Knight campus including employees and UG employees.
Position Summary
This Executive Assistant position (EA) supports the SAVPAR and senior members of their team with high-level executive support including complex calendar management, coordinating executive communications, responding to communications, managing complex travel itineraries, presentation support, generating and preparing formal documents, project management, and interfacing with the broader campus on behalf of the SAVPAR. Additionally, the EA will provide administrative and project management support for senior members of the SAVPAR team including but not limited to the IMPACT team lead by a Senior Director (SD) and providing calendar support for the Assistant Vice President for Applied Graduate Programs (AVPAGP).
