Department Summary

University Communications drives the University of Oregon’s strategic goals through the development and implementation of comprehensive communications and marketing programs. The division manages media relations, digital communications, social media, creative design, writing, editing, strategic communications, licensing, and marketing strategy. It collaborates with departments across campus to tell the UO’s key stories, enhance its reputation, and support initiatives that showcase academic and research excellence while promoting student success.

Position Summary

The Director of Communications Partnerships (DCP) will serve as the primary relationship manager for lead communicators and others in the academic units (i.e., schools, colleges, Ballmer Institute, and Knight Campus), acting as the principal liaison between these divisions and the central division of University Communications. The DCP will also serve as the lead for some administrative units across the University of Oregon.

The position fosters effective communication strategies supporting the University’s strategic plan, ensures alignment among communications offices, and helps identify and source key content for university-wide communications products and platforms. The DCP works to build alignment, community, and shared purpose among lead communicators across the academic enterprise. This position will report to the Assistant Vice President for News and Content in University Communications. They will work closely with the Director of Content Strategy for the development of editorial content and with the Director of Organizational Development to lead information sharing and events relevant to communicators throughout the university.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
• Five years of professional experience in communications, marketing, or a related field.
• Experience building and sustaining relationships and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Experience developing and implement strategic communication plans.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative partnerships across multiple units and stakeholders.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
• Skilled in conflict management, strategic planning, problem-solving, and project management.
• Proficiency in digital media, social media, and other communications tools.
• High level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all communication efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a higher education setting, particularly within a decentralized administrative structure.
• Familiarity with the University of Oregon’s administrative programs, academic units, and university policies.
• Advanced degree in a related field (e.g., Master’s, PhD).
• Experience in crisis communication and media relations.
