Department Summary

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the hub of learning, research, and academic excellence at the University of Oregon. Position Summary

The Science Stores, housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, partners with UO Purchasing and Contracting Services (PCS) to provide a one-stop shop for academic researchers and local industrial partners. Science Stores stock reagents, chemicals, and equipment common to multiple units and departments, and is constantly expanding store inventory to supply necessary materials for research needs.

The Science Stores Operations Coordinator position coordinates financial, operational, and logistical processes related to the procurement of supplies and equipment, as well as shipping, receiving, and inventory control. The Coordinator will place orders, pay invoices, and maintain financial records; monitor inventory levels, oversee storage, and adjust to customer needs while ensuring compliance with Oregon and Federal law as it applies to hazardous waste and chemical control; and oversee store operations, including space and records management, student employee hiring, onboarding, and supervision, as well as communications and customer service. The position will provide guidance to students, internal and external customers, and faculty, related to these operational and logistical areas.

This position reports directly to the Associate Director, Academic Support Unit 6 (ASU6), and will work with the Associate Director, as well as a Unity Labs representative, to support special projects as needed, developing in-depth knowledge and expertise to consistently coordinate and administer Science Store operations and special projects in assigned areas.

The person in this position interacts frequently with faculty, students, staff, external customers, as well as with administrative colleagues throughout the academic and administrative areas of the University. This position will work independently as well as a member of a team, and will handle routine and unexpected matters that require independent judgment calls daily. The position requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize workload, as well as a commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the needs of diverse faculty, staff, and students.

Minimum Requirements

• Experience performing stores and inventory work; AND
• Training or experience providing knowledge of inventory control systems, and transportation agencies and shipping methods.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems, and stay organized, with keen attention to detail.
• Ability to understand and follow guidelines, policies, and procedures.

• Adaptability in an environment of change.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three years of office and/or warehouse experience which included experience with STEM industries.
• Lead work and/or supervisory experience, or similar experience coordinating the work of others.
• Experience working in higher education.
• Experience working in a laboratory environment.
