Department Summary

The Erb Memorial Union (EMU) is a department of the Division of Student Life. The EMU is a multifaceted auxiliary service that employs over 90 professional staff and 250 student staff, and serves over 15 thousand daily users during the academic year. The EMU welcomes students, faculty, staff, the community and visitors to campus, and its mission is to provide learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth in an open, inclusive, and resource-rich community where students and staff collaborate to inspire and sustain extraordinary programs and services that promote diversity and social interaction. The EMU is student centered and is operated in collaboration with a student Board, who are actively involved in determining the character and scope of the department and approve the budget recommendations of all EMU services and programs.

Position Summary

EMU Scheduling and Event Services facilitates planning and support for non-academic use of University facilities and outdoor space on campus. The team also provides services and equipment for a wide variety of cultural, educational, and recreational activities, enabling campus and community organizations to produce successful events. Services are available to student organizations, student groups, University departments and programs, and other non-affiliated groups holding events on the UO campus.

The Scheduling Manager reports to the Director of UO Scheduling and Event Services, and is responsible for oversight of all scheduling and office functions; the financial management for this component of the unit; hiring, discipline, training and supervision of classified and student staff working in the Scheduling office; handling complex customer issues; and coordinating with the Event Services Manager.

EMU Scheduling and Event Services is committed to providing a positive environment with knowledgeable and helpful personnel dedicated to principles of flexibility, clear communication and excellent customer service, and relies heavily on student staff to carry out its mission. Student learning opportunities include training in workplace skills (e.g., time management, contributing as a team member and respectful interactions with colleagues and consumers), scheduling software, planning and organizational skills, problem-solving and adjusting venues to accommodate the diverse values and expectations of consumers clients, and the Scheduling Manager position provides a unique opportunity to supervise and mentor student developing these skills.

Minimum Requirements

• Three years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience with financial management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
