Department Summary

The Division of Graduate Studies serves as the institutional home for all graduate students and is the administrative office with ultimate responsibility for policy and procedures relevant to graduate education and graduate students. The Division provides cross-disciplinary experiences, funding, and professional development; advocates for graduate students; and partners with programs for student success. Its programs and services affect nearly 3,500 graduate students and 135 graduate degree programs. The Division’s core purpose is to promote graduate education by fostering excellence, innovation, and inclusiveness across all graduate programs.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Communications Coordinator focused on Division of Graduate Studies internal and external communications and who will contribute to the Division’s mission and a positive, inclusive organizational culture.

As the Communications Coordinator, you will use highly developed listening, interpersonal, and collaboration skills to create and coordinate communications content about Division events, resources, procedures, and policies that support prospective and current graduate students, graduate program faculty and staff, alumni, and donors.

You will be expected to synchronize Division communications, promote a consistent, recognizable, inclusive, and positive division image, and increase student, faculty, staff, and community access to Division resources. You will ensure that the efforts are promoted and coordinated with Division, University, and community partners. You will also be responsible for working with Division and UO Central Communications staff to create content for print, web, and video projects/campaigns as well as supporting the ongoing development and maintenance of the Division website, social media communications, and email communications.

In this position, you will also:

Minimum Requirements

Three years experience in gathering information, writing/producing materials, presenting information to the public and public relations. One year of this experience must have included responsibility for press releases and interaction with the news media.

A bachelor's degree in journalism, communication or closely related field may substitute for up to two years of the general experience.

• High-level interpersonal skills and strong communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to successfully brand and story tell, in ways that engage and capture the attention of the target audience
• Ability to work effectively and successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures in a team environment
• Ability to write creative communications content that is culturally inclusive, sensitive, and relevant
• Ability to produce creative, high-quality work in a rapidly changing environment
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, project management applications, and web-based content management systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated project management experience
• Experience writing and editing in higher education
• Experience with digital content strategy and analytics
• Knowledge of website structure, navigation, and using basic HTML code
• Knowledge and experience with Drupal, WordPress, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, Mail Chimp, other content management systems, and desktop publishing
• Photography and videography skills
