Department Summary

The division of University Communications (UC) is charged with telling the University of Oregon’s (UO) stories to a broad range of audiences and positioning the university to succeed and thrive. The division utilizes and manages a comprehensive suite of communications tools, including branding, advertising, licensing, social media, publication, news, radio, and more to elevate the reputation and brand awareness of the institution for the benefit of the university.

Position Summary

The Associate Director of CRM Strategy and Market Research reports to the senior director for marketing and brand strategy. This position will communicate to multiple internal and external audiences on behalf of the division. In addition, this position frequently works with and manages high-impact projects and sensitive and confidential information and will be expected to exercise discretion. This role is pivotal in shaping and executing our marketing and brand strategy, and driving growth in engagement, by elevating our brand's presence through market research and various communications tools, including Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

 Use of Software Tools and CRM

The associate director may use software such as MyEmma and Anthology to help execute communications and marketing messages. They will also be integral in helping implement Salesforce Marketing Cloud for use by the Division of University Communications and its partnering departments. The position will work collaboratively with external audiences, internal leadership, and professionals to develop strong digital communication plans and identities for distinct populations through targeted email campaigns. They will also assist with developing CRM business practices, ensuring systems health management and improvements, and building and maintaining reports and queries. This position is expected to use the Wrike project management software to set project timelines, track progress and milestones, and communicate with and direct project collaborators.

Market Research

The associate director will conduct comprehensive market research to identify industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging market opportunities. They will analyze market data, including consumer behavior and market segmentation, to develop actionable insights. They will synthesize research findings into strategic recommendations to inform marketing strategies for major brand initiatives and visual identity development.

This position proficiently utilizes software tools like Miro for visual collaboration, Qualtrics for survey design and analysis, audience sentiment analysis tools, and Nielsen data tools for market intelligence. The associate director will leverage these, or similar tools, to enhance data-driven decision-making, collaboration, and strategic planning.

Data Analysis

The associate director will analyze marketing data, including customer journey analytics, campaign performance metrics, and market trends. They will develop and maintain dashboards and reports to track and visualize key performance indicators (KPIs). In addition, they will utilize data analysis techniques to extract information that help drive marketing strategy optimization.

Project Producer

Serve as a project producer among the division as needed. A project producer is accountable for developing, implementing, and executing the communications strategy or plan for a project, as defined by the University Communications Project Management Plan. Project Producers will ensure all appropriate stakeholders are consulted and informed, responsibilities are assigned, and tasks are completed by the project team.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, business, data science, or related discipline or two years of professional experience working in the areas of communications, marketing, public relations, CRM user, or research and analysis. AND
• Six years of professional experience as a marketing and communications professional and leader for an organization that was responsible for high-stakes and complex marketing and communication goals and projects.

• Ability to produce high-volume, high-quality work in a rapidly changing environment.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, project management applications, and web-based content management systems.
• Experience in leveraging technology communication tools.
• Demonstrates an ability to take initiative, while making clear, well-thought-out, and deliberate decisions.
• Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

• Project management and client management experience.
• Demonstrates experience in developing or leading efforts to implement system-wide technologies and willingness to learn emerging medias.
• Experience working in marketing and communications in higher education.
• Experience working with executives and serving as team lead for administrative needs.
• Advanced degree in journalism, marketing, communications, public relations, business, data science, or related areas.
