Department Summary

The Division of Undergraduate Education and Student Success (UESS) promotes academic excellence, universal access, engagement and achievement for the student scholar. UESS programs focus on the educational trajectory of the student by providing opportunities and services essential for progress toward scholastic objectives and intellectual development. UESS departments and programs serve the entire population of UO undergraduate students and partner closely with other campus units to support student success and engagement.

The Accessible Education Center (AEC) facilitates and supports access and inclusion for students with disabilities. The AEC coordinates services, determines student accommodations, provides advocacy and collaborates with students, faculty, staff and the community to create and sustain accessible physical, curricular, and informational environments.

Position Summary

The AEC Assistant Director provides leadership within the Accessible Education Center (AEC) as a member of the leadership team and reports directly to the AEC Senior Director. The Assistant Director has primary responsibility for managing the effective operation of accommodations, consistent with institutional compliance responsibilities, as well as overseeing outreach and data/evaluation efforts of the AEC

This position has significant responsibility for the operations, including expanded implementation, enhancement, and maintenance of AEC’s information management system, AEC Connect. This specialized portal-based database program (AIM) is designed to ensure that students with disabilities are efficiently provided reasonable and appropriate accommodations. This position provides overall oversight, support, and leadership on best database practices to colleagues who coordinate a range of accommodations through AEC Connect. This includes testing, interpreting, notetaking, alternate formats, and notification letters to faculty. This position oversees day-to-day management of these systems and works with the product vendor to troubleshoot issues and stay up to date on changes. This position supervises the Accommodation Programs Assistant, and2-4student workers.

Not only does the Assistant Director oversee AEC Connect and its’ various components, but the Assistant Director also has direct oversight over the implementation of the listed accommodations: testing accommodations, alternative format and accessible technology, notetaking support, classroom relocation, and adaptive/accessible furniture.

The Assistant Director serves as the AEC representative and liaison to faculty/instructors and other campus partners. This includes AEC’s partnership with the University Testing Center, instructor and staff trainings/presentations on accessibility, and managing the operations of AEC’s training program: Accessibility Ally. The Assistant Director seeks opportunities to create and deepen partnerships across campus to further AEC’s mission.

The Assistant Director is responsible for analyzing data related to AEC operations. The Assistant Director compiles data through AIM and then uses data analysis programs (such as Excel, IBM Cognos, Power BI, etc.) to identify and interpret trends or patterns. The Assistant Director works with AEC’s leadership team to use these data analysis reports to influence department operations and strategic planning.

This position requires regular interaction with both undergraduate and graduate students, faculty/staff, and collaboration with key university partners. This position requires high levels of sensitivity and cultural awareness, the ability to work independently, demonstrate sound judgment, and exercise creative problem-solving.


The Assistant Director must be able to work with diverse students presenting with a range of disability experiences and demonstrate respect for all individuals. The manager must exhibit professionalism and collegiality in a team environment, and the ability to create a welcoming, inclusive, accessible, and professional atmosphere in the office. This person must exhibit cultural humility and agility, with the ability and commitment to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• Experience tracking large amounts of data and overseeing program operations.
• Experience with program or project management, including overseeing and coordinating complicated program operations.
• One year of Supervision experience.
• Experience designing training materials and facilitating workshops.

Professional Competencies

color, non-traditional, and under-prepared individuals).

• Ability to anticipate next steps and execute independently.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite (or similar). Ability to produce professional correspondence, documents, data reports, and presentations.
• Familiarity with or ability to learn IBM Cognos, Power BI, and/or other data analysis platforms.
• Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
• Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of universal/inclusive design concepts and experience with implementation.
• Working knowledge of ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
• Ability to summarize, compile, and interpret student data and reports.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree.
• Familiarity with the Accessible Information Management database management system designed for disability services offices.
• Familiarity with IBM Cognos and/or Power BI.
• Experience with the coordination of services and/or scheduling of service providers.
• Basic understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
• Experience navigating boundary setting conversations.
• Familiarity with the use of technology and assistive equipment to facilitate communication access, and equal access in testing situations.
