Department Summary

The Division of Student Life supports the university’s academic mission and strategic plan through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Student Life includes four major portfolios, the Office of the Dean of Students, Experiential Learning & Engagement, Health & Wellbeing, and Division Administration. University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Life and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff are required to uphold the values of the UHS.

This position works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to support the efficient operation of the Dental Services department by assisting the dentist, dental hygienist, and front desk staff. Responsibilities include performing chairside assistance, laboratory tasks, clinical support, and clerical functions to ensure high-quality patient care and smooth departmental workflow.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month position, scheduled five days per week.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and/or System of Award Management (SAM). In addition, employee must follow Compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles, and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements.

Minimum Requirements

• Six months’ experience as an assistant in a dental office involving technical duties; OR
• An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Possess a valid Certificate of Radiological Proficiency issued by the Oregon State Board of Dentistry
• Experience in dental equipment care and maintenance (water lines, M11, Statim sterilizers, etc.)
• One year of recent experience with Fuse, Eaglesoft or Dentrix electronic dental health record software
• Recent, direct dental assisting experience
• Evidence of successful completion of six Dental Assisting CE hours in the previous year
• One year of recent experience with all aspects of in-house dental lab work i.e., pouring & trimming models, using vacuum forming machines
