Department Summary

University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff are required to uphold the values of the UHS.

This position works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.

Position Summary

The Senior Staff Therapist/Psychologist provides psychological intervention, prevention, and postvention programs and services to the university community, primarily to University of Oregon students. The Senior Staff Therapist/Psychologist provides programs and services that target serious mental health issues, as well as those that are developmental and preventative in nature. Experience with developmental and serious mental health issues relevant to university students is required. This position provides clinical services such as same-day scheduled or drop-in and single-session intervention, initial clinical assessment, short-term individual therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, and case disposition; completes clinical and other administrative tasks, develops, implements, and evaluates educational and prevention outreach programs, provides consultation to faculty, staff, students, parents and families, and other mental health/health care providers, and participates in department and university meetings and committees. This position may supervise and/or train doctoral interns and other graduate students. This position reports to a member of the CS leadership team.

The Senior Staff Therapist/Psychologist adheres to university and department policies, State of Oregon statutes pertaining to the practice of psychology, and relevant ethical codes.

Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

There are two types of ongoing duration appointments available:
• 10-month appointments begin approximately one month prior to the start of the Fall term and end approximately two weeks after the end of the Spring term.
• 12-month appointments are year-long and include the Summer term.

Most accrued vacation leave is expected to be used during student breaks, with exceptions made based on operational needs.

The position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and/or System of Award Management (SAM). Must be in compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Therapist:
• Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, couples and family therapy, social work, or a related field. Applicants with master’s degrees must be currently licensed and able to obtain Oregon licensure prior to the start date.
• Eighteen months of experience with a variety of clinical issues, ranging from developmental issues to more serious psychopathology.
• Provide brief therapy.
• Nine months of experience providing mental health services to college or university students.

Psychologist:
• Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program.
• All degree requirements must be completed prior to the start date.
• Completion of an APA- or CPA-accredited doctoral internship prior to the start date.
• Eighteen months of experience with a range of clinical issues, ranging from developmental issues to more serious psychopathology.
• Provide brief therapy.
• Nine months providing psychological services to college or university students.
• If not currently licensed, must be licensed in Oregon within two years of hire and must have an approved residency contract with the Oregon Board of Psychology within three months after the start date.
• If licensed in another state, must be licensed in Oregon prior to the start date.

Professional Competencies

• Demonstrated multicultural competence and commitment to multicultural organizational development.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to articulate an understanding of the role of a counseling center on a university campus.

Preferred Qualifications

• Nine months of experience in a college or university counseling center which included collaboration with campus partners.
