Department Summary

Printing Services provides and procures digital and offset printing and bindery services to the university
community, and also oversees the print services portion of the Tech Support and Print Services unit within the EMU. Print Services also manages the university-wide fleet copier and printer programs. We aim to provide high-quality products quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively. Printing Services is an auxiliary unit within the Campus Services group in the Finance and Administration portfolio. Printing Services covers its own expenses and operations through sales and services.

Finance and Administration is a vibrant and varied portfolio serving all aspects of campus life. Our employees perform a wide range of functions including offering essential financial tools and support to the university’s many departments, providing key resources to employees, and keeping campus safe, clean, accessible and beautiful.

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to operate large and small bindery equipment; folding, cutting, gathering, collating, stapling, or otherwise binding print jobs of various sizes and materials. This position conducts finishing work on all print jobs produced internally in accordance with work order specifications. This position conducts minor repairs and provides routine maintenance on bindery equipment. This position collaborates with other members of the print services team to identify bindery best practices and suggest increased efficiencies prior to and after the print process has been completed.

Interactions/contacts may occur at times with the campus community in the course of performing work and responding to inquiries. Additionally, this position may communicate with equipment technician’s in-person or via phone and email to resolve equipment issues. Decisions affect the quality of folding, page imposition, registration, trimming, and overall quality of finished product produced.

Work is reviewed by the Printing Services Manager daily to clarify and coordinate production standards, expectations, specification changes, and overall product quality. A performance appraisal is conducted annually.

Driving Requirement:
It is an essential requirement of this position to qualify for and maintain UO driver's certification eligibility, which includes maintaining an Oregon driver’s license throughout employment in this position.

Essential Personnel:
This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.

Minimum Requirements

• One year experience on numerous different models of large and small bindery finishing machines.
• One year experience working with all different paper types and weights, and other technical aspects of printing and bindery work.
• One year experience working in a printing production area.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience tracking production steps and hours in shop floor collection software program
• Experience with bulk mail processes including postal regulations, experience operating mailing equipment such as inserting, ink jetting, and tabbing equipment.
• Experience with heavy machinery such as forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
• Experience with problem solving with coworkers on tight deadlines.
• Experience with different models of large and small bindery finishing machines.
• Experience working with all different paper types and weights, and other technical aspects of printing and bindery work.
