Department Summary

University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff are required to uphold the values of the UHS.

This position works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.

Position Summary

The Assistant Director/Clinical Director oversees the day-to-day operation of the clinical system, including triage and intake processes; same-day and scheduled appointments; short-term focused individual therapy; single-session and follow-up intervention; case management, case disposition, and waitlist management; and treatment planning and termination processes. The Assistant Director/Clinical Director coordinates the group therapy program or supervises a group therapy program coordinator. This position shares responsibility for the electronic mental health records system and for developing, implementing, and revising forms for clinical documentation.

This position participates as a member of the Counseling Services (CS) leadership team and University Health Services leadership team, works closely with the director to oversee operations of Counseling Services, and shares responsibility with the Director to support the mental health of the campus community. A key aspect of this position is assisting the director and other Counseling leadership teams with the ongoing process of University Health Services integration. The Assistant Director/Clinical Director represents Counseling Services to University Health Services and the broader University when the Director is unavailable by responding to issues of concern from the campus community and serving as the Counseling representative on university committees as appointed by the Director. This position has the authority to authorize time-sensitive expenditures and personnel documents in the absence of the Director. In collaboration with other department leadership, the Assistant Director/Clinical Director ensures that the department is fulfilling its responsibilities to provide high-quality and timely mental health programs and services, collaborating effectively with other University Health Services units and other University departments and staff members, engaging in program evaluation of its programs and services, and tracking and responding to utilization of services. This position frequently interfaces with the University Health Services medical and psychiatry staff.

The Assistant Director/Clinical Director collaborates with UHS administrative staff to develop and improve administrative systems related to clinical service delivery and other department activities. The Assistant Director/Clinical Director supervises the clinical responsibilities of all clinical staff and trainees; is usually the first and primary contact for clinical consultation with clinical staff and trainees; provides oversight regarding the waitlist for clinical services; ensures quality control regarding clinical services, case disposition, and waitlist management, and interfaces with the University community about CS clinical services. In the extended absence of the director, this position may make decisions regarding the release of confidential Counseling Services mental health information and maintain the security of all Counseling Services records. The Assistant Director/Clinical Director shares responsibility for coordinating CS quality control measures and program evaluation.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and/or System of Award Management (SAM). In addition, employees must follow Compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements.

Minimum Requirements

• Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology or a master’s degree in counseling or social work (or directly related field) from an accredited university.
• Five years of post-licensure experience providing clinical services in a clinic, agency, or college counseling center.
• Licensed as a psychologist, social worker, or licensed professional counselor for at least five years.
• Eligible to be licensed in Oregon prior to starting employment.
• Two years’ experience providing supervision to professional clinical staff.
• Two years’ experience providing clinical consultation to professional staff.

• Experience working in an integrated health and counseling center.
• Experience providing data-driven decision-making and leadership in a college or other mental health setting.
